Amed is one of the best snorkeling destinations in Bali. In many places, you can simply walk into the water straight from the beach. No boat needed.

Lipah Beach is one of the most enjoyable spots for snorkeling. It is relatively quiet, the water is clear, and within minutes you are surrounded by colorful fish. With a bit of luck, you may even spot a sea turtle. Jemeluk Beach is another excellent location, especially near the rocky areas, where you will also find a small underwater temple that adds an extra layer of magic to the experience.

Although some coral reefs have suffered damage over the years, marine life remains abundant. Early mornings are ideal, when the sea is calm and visibility is at its best.

Amed is perfect for exploring by scooter. The coastal road winds past hills, bays and small villages where daily life still follows a traditional rhythm. During the rainy season, the usually dry landscape transforms into a lush green environment filled with palm trees and tropical vegetation.

A ride south from Amed offers beautiful views over the sea, fishing boats and secluded beaches. Along the way, friendly locals and curious children often wave as you pass by. It feels far removed from the more touristy parts of Bali.

A visit to Lahangan Sweet is an absolute highlight when staying in Amed. From this viewpoint, you look out over Gunung Agung on one side and Lombok and the Gili Islands on the other. Sunrise and sunset are especially spectacular here.

The drive takes around 45 minutes, with the final stretch being steep and uneven. Once you arrive, the effort is instantly rewarded. For those who want to take the experience even further, it is possible to stay overnight and wake up to an unforgettable view.

Sunset Point near Jemeluk Beach is a popular place to watch the sun go down. From the cliffs, you overlook the bay with Gunung Agung rising in the background. As the sky slowly turns pink and orange, the scenery becomes truly picturesque.

While the area has become slightly more commercial in recent years, the view remains impressive. It is a perfect stop at the end of a day exploring the coastline by scooter.

Several of East Bali’s most beautiful cultural attractions are located within easy driving distance of Amed. Tirta Gangga is a well-known water palace featuring ponds, fountains and stepping stones. It is popular and often busy, but still highly photogenic.

For a more peaceful experience, head to Taman Ujung. This former royal water palace is a bit further away but offers wide open spaces, stunning views and a calm atmosphere. The combination of water, mountains and sea makes it one of the most beautiful spots in the region.

Another hidden gem is Bukit Cinta. Here, you can enjoy views over rice fields with Gunung Agung in the background. Sunrise is the most magical moment to visit, but even later in the day the scenery remains breathtaking.

The easiest way to explore Amed is by scooter. Distances between villages are short, and the area is ideal for discovering at your own pace. Plan to stay at least three to five days to truly experience Amed and its surroundings, although many travelers end up staying longer than expected.

The best time to visit is from April to October, but even during the rainy season Amed is surprisingly pleasant, with short showers and plenty of sunshine.
