Just a short boat ride from Bali lies Nusa Penida, an island famous for its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters and some of the most breathtaking beaches in Indonesia. Its rugged landscapes, spectacular viewpoints and laid-back island atmosphere make Nusa Penida a destination you simply shouldn’t miss during your Bali adventure.

While it’s possible to visit the island on a day trip, we highly recommend staying for at least two nights. This gives you enough time to explore the famous highlights while also discovering some of the island’s quieter, hidden gems.

Visit the iconic Kelingking Beach

Kelingking Beach is undoubtedly the most famous landmark on Nusa Penida. From the viewpoint, you’ll overlook a dramatic cliff shaped like a T-Rex stretching toward a stunning white sand beach surrounded by vibrant turquoise water.

For adventurous travelers, it’s possible to hike down to the beach via a steep staircase. Keep in mind that the descent is challenging, and swimming is generally not recommended due to the strong currents. Even if you stay at the top, the breathtaking view alone is worth the visit.

Relax at Crystal Bay

On the eastern side of the island, you’ll find two of Nusa Penida’s most stunning beaches: Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach. Both are surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and brilliant turquoise waters.

A scenic staircase carved into the cliffs leads down to these postcard-perfect beaches. The combination of white sand, dramatic rock formations and breathtaking coastal scenery makes this one of the island’s absolute highlights.

Discover Broken Beach

Broken Beach is one of Nusa Penida’s most unique natural attractions. Here, the ocean flows through a natural limestone arch into a perfectly circular bay surrounded by towering cliffs.

Although you cannot access the water, walking along the cliff edge offers incredible panoramic views. Since Angel’s Billabong is located just a short walk away, both attractions are easy to combine in one visit.

Explore Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach

Snorkel with manta rays

One of the most unforgettable experiences around Nusa Penida is snorkeling with majestic manta rays. These gentle giants, with wingspans reaching several meters, regularly glide through the island’s crystal-clear waters.

While sightings can never be guaranteed, experienced local guides know the best locations and always do their best to find them. It is easily one of the most memorable adventures you can have during your trip.
