The atmosphere becomes especially magical at sunset, when the famous Kecak Dance takes place. During this traditional Balinese performance, dozens of performers create a hypnotic chant while the sun slowly disappears into the sea.

For the best experience, visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds.

For one of Bali’s most breathtaking views, head to Karang Boma Cliff.

From this rugged cliff, you can look out across the endless Indian Ocean and Uluwatu’s dramatic coastline. Unlike many other viewpoints, it is often surprisingly quiet.

Just be careful near the edge, as there are no safety barriers.
